South Dakota Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) teams recently conducted a statewide emergency net activation exercise simulating severe blizzard and power blackout conditions.
Volunteer operators established primary voice contacts on HF 75-meter nets (3.870 MHz and 3.860 MHz) and transmitted formal ICS-213 health and welfare messages using Winlink digital radio.
Section Emergency Coordinators commended operators for rapid station setup and seamless inter-county message relaying.
