The Black Hills Amateur Radio Club (BHARC) in Rapid City is finalizing preparations for its annual emergency communications exercise across Western South Dakota.
Operators will deploy battery and generator-powered VHF/UHF stations and HF NTS nets around Mount Rushmore National Memorial and Custer State Park, testing high-altitude radio coverage and backup digital communications channels.
With rugged terrain and limited cellular coverage across parts of Pennington and Custer counties, BHARC operators demonstrate how amateur radio provides dependable links during emergency activations.
